A Febrile
Standard
A new work in progress selected as a finalist for the fourth edition of the COCA PROJECT, Two Wild Seas, Taranto, Italy.
A Febrile Standard is a proposal for an outdoor installation—in relation to personal biography (I was born in Malta to Scottish parents)—employing the symbolism of a 'fever flag' to reflect on meaning-making outside imposed, constructed systems like nationalism or colonialism.
[...] time and place of birth, in relation to a proposition of identity that I prefer to think of as more related to an alignment of planets and stars, rather than political borders carved out through conflict [...] the ‘fever flag’ is a complex visual metaphor for zoonotic interplay among human culture, non-human organisms and the environment, rendered as a colonial-parasitic symbol.
