Automatic Cinema

A video document︎︎︎ of the Automatic Cinema workshop hosted by the Centre for Digital Storymaking at London South Bank University (June, 2018). Jørgen Leth's film, The Perfect Human (1968)—an examination of human behaviour in a pseudo-scientific way with actors labelled as 'perfect humans' performing in a detached manner as though they were subjects in a zoo—was a point of departure for the workshop. Working towards proof of concept, text sourced from The Ecological Approach to Visual Perception (1979) by James J. Gibson linked performance, robotics and machine learning as part of an automated filmmaking proposition. The Research & Development was supported by Arts Council England.
